Barstool Makeover

I bought these 3 barstools at Traditions Antique Mall
(where my booth is located) during their outside fair
They have every so often..

Obviously they were crying for a makeover!

So, I was happy to oblige..
3 layers of dark grey, light grey and whitewash..

Then, I painted this graphic I found at

Sooo much better!

Frenchy Chair Makeover

TGIF ya'll!

Usually, Friday nights after
Mr. Ruffles gets out of work,
we go out for dinner and spend
some much needed "us" time.
But, this weekend he's gone working..

sooo...

I've started to "plow" through my stash
of junk awesome finds in my garage,
no better time than the present!

I found 2 of these chairs in south Florida
a few months ago.  They've sat in my garage
for quite some time, getting pushed further
and further in the back corner, all because of
my fear of reapolstering.

I recovered chair seats before, but,
never "real" reapolstering..

Here is the before:

I ripped the cording off,
(man o man there were at least a billion staples!)
stripped the chair down,
and painted 3 layers of paint.
White, then grey, and then white again.
Shabbied and waxed her all up,
and began to change her appearance.

It took me all day yesterday
and most of the morning today..
but, she's finally finished!!!

Yeah, I said it,
you're not losing it... there are 2.
But, the other one is going
to sit for a bit longer... this baby
took forever and a day!!

Literally!

I need a break.. LOL

From that...                             To this!

Yard Sale Finds and Nesting Tables Redo

Happy March ya'll!

It's been quite the busy past
couple of weeks here at
the Ruffle Household!

Last week, my grandson James
and his other grandmas were
here for a visit.  We kept pretty
busy catching beetles & snails
in the morning.. and playing in
the afternoon in the wonderful
Florida sunshine!  We even managed
to get a trip to Sea World in, or,
as he calls it... "Shark Land"!

I now know more than I care to
about all sorts of sharks.. Lemon Sharks,
Tiger Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks..
Little James is quite the smarty pants
when it comes to sharks!
(He'll even tell you which ones
will bite you and which ones won't.. hehe)

Here's a cute pic of him eating
Florida oranges on our lanai..

Silly kid!!

Last weekend Mr. Ruffles
went golfing.. *yawn*..

So.. I went to a few yard sales.
Sooo, happy I did!

Look what I found:

Silver Coffee Pot
Buttons
Candlestick

Wonderful Scale
and more buttons!

Check this out!
My favorite find of the weekend.

A French bottle with
the labels still attached.
Did you see the top?
With the 4 holes..
how cool is that?!

Desk.. yes, I have the drawers.. LOL

Cute side table and
wood pedestal.

And, these nesting tables..

Today I got to work on them.

I cleaned them up, and
then painted 1 coat of white,
then, 1 dry brushed coat of grey..

Sanded them down to
give them that Shabby goodness..

and added a French graphic
to come up with these!

Frenchy Coffee Table

I finally finished a coffee table
that's been sitting in my garage
since last April!  Poor thing has
been used for the last few months
as a stand and "catch all" for my
other painting projects.. I thought
it high time she receives a makeover too!

This is the only before picture I could
find of the coffee table, it was taken in
the back of my truck.. upside down..

I picked her up at Goodwill for a song!

I sanded it down, painted it white,
shabbied her up.. just a bit ~

For me, there was just something missing..
So, I hopped on over to Graphics Fairy
to see what I could find.

I found this wonderful French Typography
saved it to my computer, then enlarged it
by 250%.  It printed out onto 6 sheets of
paper.  I trimmed the paper down, taped it
all together (like a puzzle.. lol).

I put carbon paper underneath my copies,
and drew with pencil on top of my
copied paper so that the design would
"print" off onto my table from the carbon paper.

(I wish I would've taken a picture for ya'll
to see, but, once I get started on something
I get so excited to get going, I forget to
take pictures.. sooo sorry!!)

After tracing over the entire graphic,
I took a Sharpie Paint Pen and filled it in.

This is the end result!

As you can see, I screwed the "B" up
a little bit.. but, overall I think
it turned out great!

What do you think?

I haven't waxed her yet, I'm still
debating whether or not to
shabby over the graphic or not.

~

On another note, how many of you
are headed to Renningers this weekend?
I am sooo excited, I can hardly contain myself!
I am planning on going all 3 days and
I hope I recognize some people from blogland!!
If you recognize me, please say hi, I'd
love to meet you!

ReDo's..

Happy Fathers Day
to all you awesome Daddies out there!

I hope ya'll enjoyed the day, you deserve it!

Mr. Ruffles is out of town working,
so, I decided to do a little
and

Not too long ago, all the blog rage
was the union jack stuff..

Cute? Yep..

but, since 4th of July was coming up soon
I thought I'd give the union jack a twist
and make a shabby chic pillow of
the US flag:

I know, it doesn't look like the USA flag,
but, if you use your imagination..

I cut strips of pink, blue and white fabric.
Washed them so they would fray,

Layered them all up and
stiched each one down
so they wouldn't fray more..

Today was a back & forth
sort of day.  I'd sew a little bit,
then out to the garage to
paint a little bit.

First, I painted a frame pink.
(Sorry, forgot the before!)

Close up of the detail..

Frame with the Shabby Chic US Flag Pillow

Then, back to the sewing room I go!!

I printed this awesome french graphic
sewed that onto some drop cloth.

Then, sewed the ruffle around it.

I tied some black ribbons on
my vanity chair and added the pillow

Yikes! Looks like I'll have to come up
with some sort of a cushion for
the seat too!!

Then, back to the garage
for some more painting!!

Remember the mirror I bought
yesterday at a yard sale?

Here's the before:

And, here's the after!

Close up:

I need Mr. Ruffles to help me
with hanging my mirror and frame up..

Seems I can get quite a bit done
when he's away.. except for the
hanging stuff!! LOL

What have you been up to today?

Introducing... Ms. Daytona!

Whew!  It's taken me a bit longer than I anticipated to complete the hutch I picked up in Daytona a couple of weeks ago; mostly due to the heat... (and getting sidetracked in a few thrift stores)

But, she's finally completed!

Here are the befores:

I would like to introduce you to:

Ms. Daytona!

Ain't she pretty?

She's a petite thing, standing only 69 inches..
(she's a saucy one!! LOL)

But wide around the middle at 54 inches..

I lined and mod podged her single drawer
with french script scrap book paper..

And the bottom interior..
Now she has her own hidden, unique style.

I distressed her edges
so she'd stand out in a crowd a bit more..

And, waxed her all over so she'd
shine just a bit,
like the superstar she is!!

 ~

Now that Ms. Daytona
has made her debut,
I'd love to hear what you think!!

From that.... to this!

On a French Roll

Earlier today I made a post about my Puffy Frenchy Royal Frames that I just repainted and repurposed from mirros, and now I'm back to show you the cute little childres French Chair that I just finished too!

This one was kind of a trial and error, with a mix of 3 different colored paints, a rag, sandpaper and my achy breaky back!! LOL  I seriously need to take a day at the pool or the beach again!

Here's the little childrens chair the way I bought it. On the bottom of it was a sticker that said it belonged to a local church.  I can only imagine how many little girls and boys sat on this chair during Sunday School.

I sanded the chair down...

(Heya Emily, did you see what I see in the background?
Noooo, not my truck, silly girl.. hehe! It's "our" dresser!! haha!)

Then "roughly" and "haphazzerdly" (is that a word?!) painted French Blue all over.
Being careful NOT to be too careful and leave some splotches of the wood.

I let the blue paint dry, and finished the puffy frenchy frames I posted about earlier today.

Then, went back out to the garage and again, haphazzerdly, painted on some burnt umber paint.
This time as soon as I put the brown paint on, I wiped it off.

Only doing sections at a time so the brown wouldn't dry too fast.

Then, immediatly after I added the brown paint to the entire chair,
I did the same thing with cream colored paint.

Applying the cream color paint in sections at a time
and wiping off/in as I went.

Took her outside for a good lashing sanding ;)
And here she is!!

From that... to this!

What do ya think?

Now that I've tried it on a small piece, it's a little back breaking,
but, I think I can give myself the "go ahead" on something larger...
