Catching Up With Ya'll.. Booth Pics & Antique Bed Makeover!

Yep, it's been a minute and a day
since I last added a blog post.

My apologies!

Since before Christmas I've been SOOOO busy!

My brother visited from Germany
for a few days before Christmas.
I had such a good visit with him,
we did some catching up,
shopping and an entire day
at Universal Studios riding roller coasters!

After he left, Mr. R and I visited Puerto Rico
again for the holidays.

The picture is the view from our hotel room.
We stayed for 6 days this time,
and wish we could've stayed longer!

I finally got to see the rain forest, too.
A couple of years ago, we took my son,
Anthony with us.  We booked a tour
to visit the rain forest, but, it ended up
being cancelled due to rain..

Ya, I thought that was crazy too.. you can't
visit the rain forest .. when it rains! LOL

After we got home I had a TON to do
straightening and "fluffing" my booth
at Traditions Antique Mall.

Thankyou to everyone who visited and
bought from my booth! I appreciate it so much.

Now my booth is all ready for Valentines Day!

I just brought this antique vanity
into my booth a couple of days ago.

She's a beauty for sure!

I picked this gorgeous antique bed
up right before we left for vacation.

Sooo pretty!!
But, ya know I just have to make her
Prettier!

Here's the before:

And.. here's the after!!

Yep.. I'm pretty much squealing
with delight on how she turned out!

I painted a light pink on the flowers,
and a silver on the leafing..
then added more white on top
and shabbied all over..

Gorgeous details all over this beauty!

I almost forgot to show ya..

My favorite Christmas prezzie
I received was from my mom.

Well, actually, my mom and my brother!

My brother lives in Germany,
and last year he sent me some
antique sacks for Christmas.

I used 4 of them to cover my dining room chairs,
and with this one below.. my mom sewed me
a flea market bag!

It's huge and I just LOVE it!!

Can't wait for Renningers Extravaganza
next week to fill it with all sorts of goodies!!

Bench Before and After

Ever have one of those ideas in your head?

It's all calculated out... in your head..

What fabric you're going to use..

Exactly what it's going to look like when it's completed?

Down to the last piece of lace..

I had a vision, but, in the end,
it ended up much better
that what was.. in my head...

I had invisioned this bench:

with lots and lots of lace layers,
and lots and lost of ribbons and bows..

totally girly!

After I was done cutting and stapling
the drop cloth fabric to the bench
I realized I didn't have quite enough fabric
to cover the entire bench. Boo!!

Only the bottom section was bare.
So, I went in my craftroom to see
what lace I had that I could use
to cover this part up.

Nothing seemed to work
until I remembered
I had this burlap "ribbon"
I bought a week or so ago.

It fit perfectly!!

So, in my head,
it was going to turn out totally girly..

In the end..

It's MUCH better than what I had envisioned!!

YAY!

I added the numbered burlap around the bottom,
and up towards the arms..

And, added apholstry tacks all the way down the arms.

I just love it!!

And, SO happy it didn't turn out AS girly..

Turning 40

Is August really here already?!

My gosh, this year has just flown by.

Today is the last day of my 30's..

Boo!!

This past year, when someone would ask me,
"How old are you?"  I replied, "Almost 40."
I never even embraced my last year of my 30's
by replying, "I'm 39."  Ah.. such is life..

And.. on to fabulous 40's!

The past 2 weeks of my 30's I've spent some
quality time with my couch and bed.. My allergies
kicked it into high drive and turned into Sinusitus.

I've never had that before, but, let me tell you..
I never want it again!  I spent the last 2 weeks
weak, tired and hacking my lungs out.. or, at least
that's what it felt like!  I did go to the doctor, finally,
last week and he wrote a script for some antibiotics.
Thank goodness they worked, because I had travel
plans this past weekend.  I'm finally feeling much better,
and was able to make my trip up to Michigan to attend
our family reunion, and enjoy my grandson for the past
few days in Traverse City.

Although I wish I had worn makeup for this picture (LOL)
I wanted to share with you my grandson James and I:

And this picture below of my little nutbag
wearning a fake moustache.. haha!

We really had some gorgeous weather up north
we swam every day, played on the playground
and I just ate up every minute I could have with him.
Here he is looking for shells in Traverse City..

While visiting with my dads side
of the family, we made an extra trip
a bit further to see my grandmother.

She gave me 3 quilts..
The 1st one pictured is one she made.
Isn't it gorgeous?
I love it, and will cherish it forever!!

The next 2 you see pictured are antique quilts.

These will look fabulous in my hutch
folded with the others I've collected.

I did manage to sneek away for a bit
and venture off to an antique store.

I picked up this cute little ironstone set:

I also found these clip on Roses..
aren't they fab? Pure white with glitter.

I'm not sure where I'll put them yet,
but, when I saw them glisten in the lights
I just knew they'd be great in my home.

My brother sent me a box from Germany
(where he lives)
for my birthday.. last year, he sent me
some antique grain/coffee sacks.

I'm in the middle of redoing our dining room
table and chairs, and I used those to recover
the five chairs I have to the set.

Guess what he sent me for my birthday
this year?!

Yep! Three more antique sacks!!

Aint he just the BEST big brother?!

My favorite is the one below.
I'm thinking about framing it
and hanging it in my dining room.

Before I left on my trip, I painted this
little sign that says, "Love Never Fails"

It's pink/white background and turquoise lettering.

I also decoupaged some printed tissue paper
on the corners.  I'll be bring this one up to my
booth tomorrow afternoon.

I'm pretty happy with the result, it turned out
so cute and shabby!

I hope ya'll have been enjoying
your summer so far this year..

And, if you're in your 30's..
Embrace EVERY year!!

It slips by soo fast..

Awesome Thrifting Goodness!

My day yesterday started out with a big *sigh* ~ as I detest running errands..

I did end the day feeling quite accomplished, though!

I started the day out about 10am, and finally finished my running around at around 3:30pm.
No sence in going home, Mr. Ruffles doesn't get home until 5:30pm, so, I figured I had time to kill at a couple of thrift stores.  (I even squeezed in some time at a local antique mall)  Man o man, I am glad I did! Wait.. just wait till you see what I found and took home with me!!

No furniture ~ althought I really wanted to buy a couple of peices ~ I showed Mr. Ruffles my finds last night and he says, "I thought you weren't buying anymore until you had some of the other done?"  I corrected him and said, "No.. I said I wouldn't buy anymore FURNITURE until I had some of the other done.." hehehe!!!

Ok, without further ado, my thrifting finds yesterday:

Gorgeous shabby rose platter with gold trim
Wire basket
AWESOME turquoise enamel ware

Letter holder & gold mirror frames (yep, gonna paint these!)
White wire basket
Check out the cool pink phone!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
It's a note card and pen holder. The middle says, "Dial Me"
So cute!!
3 little Homer Laughlin plates

Another close up pic of the phone
and I wrapped these blue colored vintage books in burlap

 Picture frame
Wine bottle corks
Huge bag of buttons
Vintage Pink thread
Apothecary jar
Galvanized flour scoop

Galvanized tall pail

Insert Happy Dance here!!!

More RUFFLES!!

And, I found this set of skeleton keys at the Antique Mall.

I finished the day off by texting Mr. Ruffles he needed to take me out to dinner.  We ate a pretty awesome restaurant that is set up on the beach of a small lake nearby, and ate outside. ahhhh... :)

Bag for My Flea...

I always get a laugh out of some of the blog and post titles out there,
so, I thought I'd give my comical side a try.. :)

I don't really have any fleas.. well, not the itchy kind anyway!!  I found this burlap bag at The Fresh Market grocery store.  Thought it'd be great to bring with me to flea markets and such.  It sure helped carry alot of things from Renningers this past weekend, but, man o man.. my shoulders burned!!!  I wore a tank top and the more things I bought and stuffed into my bag, the more my shoulders would rub on the burlap and just burn and itch.  Guess I didn't think too far in advance on this one!

So, I made little shoulder pads of sort for my bag.  Check it out - My new "Flea Bag" :

I tied a couple of ribbons on the straps, the cream one says, "Journey".

On the top of the straps, so my shoulders won't hurt anymore I cut a peice of toile fabric scrap I had laying around in 2 wide strips.  Tucked it all around the straps, and on the side that would hang on my shoulder I added some pillow stuffing.. then hot glued the fabric and onto the straps.

Ready to go hunting for fleas flea market hunting!!
