I gave the popular blogland framed chalkboard a try today. I bought some chalkboard paint and used a thrift store frame I found for a couple bucks.
Here's the before picture of the frame:
While it's a very nice painting of the ocean beating against the rocks, and framed in gold, I couldn't help thinking it looked like it was layered in old cigar film more than gold (Not to mention, thought a very precious metal.. I am NOT thrilled with anything gold.. LOL)
I looked beyond that and loved the frame carvings instead.
I used the back of the picture itself to paint on the chalkboard paint.
For the frame I brush painted it white, then a cream color paint, then added some dark stain in the crevices and crannies.. wiped down the excess and dry brushed with white paint on top of that.
Yeah, there are quite a few layers going on... but, look how it turned out!
I looped some faded green ribbon through the holes at the top of the frame,
and to that tied a peice of chalk.
From that to this:

ReplyDeleteThe ribbon and chalk idea came from Carol at http://thepolkadotcloset.blogspot.com/ The Polka Dot Closet. She's so creative, and even adds a little eraser to hers. Thanks for the inspiration, Carol ;-)

ReplyDeleteThanks Gin. Yep, me too. Love being in the thrift stores looking at something I would never buy the way it is, and trying to imagine what it could be. Then, taking it home and putting it all together. Soooo much fun!!
